Going for Gold

Now that the Olympics are over, time for the hardworking athletes to rest and reflect on their time. Some walked away with medals to prove their hard work paid off, while others come back ready to plan and train even harder for the next one.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average worker remains at a company for 4 years. What a similarity to the Olympics! So going off of that stat, employees are training themselves every four years as well to prepare for a career move.

How can employees train for a job search:

  • Practice makes perfect.
    • We know some like to change that saying to “perfect practice makes perfect,” but when it comes to a job search, sometimes just doing the practice is best. Individuals can be at their jobs for multiple years, so the art of putting together a resume and submitting or even just answering interview questions, can come across rusty. Using interviews as practice can be beneficial so you can familiarize yourself with talking about what you do in your current role and what accomplishments/challenges you have faced.

  • Train with others.
    • The job search really can be all about networking. Use your connections whether it is through friends/family, LinkedIn, networking groups, etc. Maybe you know someone who is at the company you want to work for and they can be a referral. If you have a mentor, practice answering interview questions with them. Even aligning with a recruiting company like us could be beneficial!!

  • Shoot for the stars!
    • Never think you can’t make it! Olympians have an awesome mentality. They train so hard for 4 years in hopes of making it on the podium. Some are just highschoolers who think they aren’t good enough. Maybe there is a job you think sounds amazing but don’t feel qualified with every single requirement….still apply! The worst that could happen is the company saying no.

If you are in need of a coach to help push you through your job search, we can’t wait to help you reach your goals!
